Camp Centerland Walk of Flame
Ensuring a Permanent Legacy
As part of ongoing capital improvements to Camp Centerland, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo is proud to announce the addition of a new firepit in 2023. Thanks to a lead gift from JCC Trustee Matthew Burwick, his wife Sara, and their family, the Barbara S. Burwick Memorial Firepit will serve as a place for campers and the community to enjoy. Inspired by Matthew’s own memories of attending Camp Centerland as a child, this project will ensure many more campers have the same opportunity.
Consider purchasing a paver for the Camp Centerland Walk of Flame!

How you can help?
To complete the project, we invite members of the community to purchase a paver stone as part of the firepit’s “Walk of Flame.” This path, leading from the main camp pathway to the new space, will be filled with permanent tributes to families, campers, loved ones, staff, and others through engraved pavers of varying sizes. In addition to the pavers, there are other opportunities for supporting the project including naming the four trees that will border the firepit, naming the wood storage area, and naming each of the sitting walls.

How to Help
Located on the Irving M. Shuman Campgrounds, Camp Centerland features hiking trails, open fields, an amphitheater, an art center, a yurt, an archery range, a basketball court, kickball field, ropes courses, a zip line, and a rock wall. Our goal is to help every child thrive at camp, learn new skills, and create lifelong memories and friendships.
Camp Centerland’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that teaching and demonstrating the Jewish values of Chesed (kindness), Kehillah (community), and Tikkun Olam (healing the world) is as important as splashing in the swimming pool, enjoying a popsicle, or singing their favorite camp songs.
