The Last Yiddish Speaker

By Deborah Zoe Laufer
October 29–November 22

Directed by Kyle LoConti

In a striking vision of America’s near future, a white supremacist regime has taken hold, and survival depends on silence. Paul and his teenage daughter, Sarah, live quietly in a small upstate town, passing as Christians while hiding their identities as Jewish refugees. When an elderly woman arrives speaking Yiddish, a language from a past they've tried to bury, their fragile world begins to unravel.

As fear closes in, they must confront an impossible question: Is safety worth the loss of who you are?

By turns suspenseful, heartfelt, and unexpectedly funny, The Last Yiddish Speaker balances high-stakes drama with sharp humor and humanity. Deborah Zoe Laufer’s powerful new play explores identity, resistance, and the enduring strength of culture, memory, and faith.
