Explore different ways to move and express through music and movement while learning beginning ballet moves, along with gross motor skills such as skipping, hopping, and leaping.

Tots Tap | Age: 3-4

Learn basic tap steps through repetition, building coordination and balance, and strengthening muscles. Additionally, children will work on counting and step patterns.

Introduction to the basics of gymnastics while building agility, balance, and coordination.

Learn isolations of the body, proper alignment, and rhythmic aspects of dance. Begin with a warm-up, followed by across-the-floor phrases that include turns and leaps.

A fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements.

Incorporates gymnast-like tumbling and flexibility skills with dance and cheer moves.

Adult Ballet | Age: 18+

Adult CONTEMPORARY | Age: 18+

Focus on special and body awareness, using the weight of our limbs to move through space, the efficiency of our movement into and out of the floor, and finding our musicality and personal expression. We will finish the class with a contemporary phrase.

Tuesdays | 7:00-8:00 pm | Benderson

Adult Hip-Hop | Age: 18+

Learn about stage presence, telling a story through dance, and gain more confidence in performing on stage along with isolations of the body, proper alignment, and rhythmic aspects of dance. All levels welcome!

Thursdays | 6:00-7:00 pm | Benderson

Adult Musical Theater | Age: 18+

Learn various styles of Broadway. Students will learn about stage presence, telling a story through dance, and gain more confidence in performing on stage along with isolations of the body, proper alignment and rhythmic aspects of dance. Dancers will finish class by learning a phrase to some of our favorite musical numbers!

Adult Tap | Age: 18+

Develop rhythm, style, and sound, focusing on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. All levels welcome!

Tango | Age: 18+

Learn basic tango steps and an ability to variate those moves through the dance.

Meet Our Instructors

Katie Brauer

Katie Brauer graduated from Brockport with a BFA in dance in May of 2018. During her time there she served on the production committee and stage-managed a few thesis performances, one of which was presented in NYC. She has taught many genres of dance including, modern, tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip hop.

Katie interned for the NYC-based dance company Doug Varone and Dancers at their summer intensive. She has also participated in the Bill Evans Teacher Institute (BETI) and Somatic Dance Conference for multiple summers, having the opportunity to continue to learn and grow from incredible mentors such as Bill Evans, Debbie Knapp, and Stevie Oaks, among many others.  

Katie started working in the early childhood department here at JCC as an assistant teacher. She started an enrichment program called Move ‘n Groove, doing creative movement with the three and four-year-olds.

Katie is so excited to have a fabulous year with everyone!

Jessie Miller

Jessie Miller is a graduate of SUNY University at Buffalo with a degree in BFA Theatre Performance. She is an Assistant Teacher at the JCC Benderson Family Building and a professional dancer and actress in downtown Buffalo. Jessie can be seen performing with companies such as The Brazen Faced Varlets, The Francis Bacon Experiment, Second Generation Theatre, and more. Originally from Long Island NY, Jessie has been dancing for over 20 years and is versed in many styles of dance including Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Musical Theatre. Throughout her years as a dancer, she has found that the best way to grow was to be able to teach the technique to someone else. Jessie first started dancing at her local JCC when she was in preschool, and now she is thrilled to be able to bring the same joy she felt at four years old to other children through dance.  

Marisa Kisker-CFT

Marisa holds a BFA in dance from SUNY Buffalo and is an ISSA-certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor.  Her choreography is extremely versatile and perfect for all fitness levels. Her passion for health and wellness coincides with her energy & enthusiasm. Through her dance and fitness training, she is adept at helping youth, teens, adults, and seniors, through programs that are tailored to meet individual needs.  Marisa has 3 beautiful children and is thrilled to be part of the JCC Buffalo family.  

Alexis Gadawski

Alexis has been apart of the dance and cheerleading community for the last 18 years. She has coached and trained in recreational, high school, and competitive. Alexis’s favorite thing about teaching is helping students step into their full power and gain confidence in themselves. She strives to produce a safe space for one to be creative and expressive.
