This hilarious and heartfelt comedy tells the story of Ben Jacobson, an Upper West Side financial consultant ready to propose to his long-time girlfriend Hannah, and Herschel Klein, an Orthodox diamond dealer tasked with selling Ben an engagement ring. After a fateful first meeting Herschel becomes entangled in the lives of Ben and Hannah for better and worse. Initially Ben and Herschel’s differing views on their shared religions divides them, but as both men struggle with romantic relationships and faith an unexpected bond is forged between them in their pursuit of love.

Robyn is honored to be making her JRT debut! She was last seen as Mayella in To Kill A Mockingbird at the Kavinoky Theatre. Other recent credits include 1984 (Kavinoky) and Macbeth (Shakespeare in Delaware Park). Robyn is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a BFA in Acting. Much love to her family and partner for their continued support! 

Zachary Bellus

Ben 

 

Zachary Bellus is delighted to be back at JRT for another show. His first show with JRT was Looking Through Glass in the spring of 2019 and is grateful to add Modern Orthodox to his collection of stories. Zachary has worked all around Buffalo after making his professional debut in 2017. His notable credits include: Johnny Cade in The Outsiders, Jesse Tuck in Tuck Everlasting, Nick in New Kid, and Zach in Brain Freeze at TOY; Esteban in Steve andvarious roles in Significant Other at BUA; Flue in Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits at SPD; Spinx in Mercury Fur at Subversive; and taking a locally written and produced play Forget Me Not to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019 where it received a four-star review. Zachary is currently a writer and actor for a company called Dialogues on Diversity out of Boston which is focused on using theater as a vehicle to discuss social injustices across a variety of demographics and parts of society. He is the newest member of their flagship two-man show, Black Jew Dialogues, that has been performed over 400 times over the last 15 years. Zachary would like to thank the amazingly talented cast and crew of Modern Orthodox for making this an awesome experience. Hope you enjoyed it. Cheers.

Genevieve Ellis

Hannah

Genevieve is honored to be making her JRT debut in Modern Orthodox! New to Buffalo, Genevieve is an actress, vocal instructor and graduate of SUNY Fredonia’s BFA Musical Theatre program. Interested in the mechanics behind vocal production and voice science, Genevieve also studied Advanced Vocal Pedagogy through Sonaura Voice Center, where she learned how to better assist her students through research based theories in voice development, acoustics, anatomy and physiology. Favorite credits include: Cinderella (Into the Woods), Brooke Ashton (Noises Off), Portia (Something Rotten), Helena (Midsummer Night’s Dream), Sister Mary Robert (Sister Act), and Ilse (Spring Awakening). She is excited to continue engaging in the Buffalo theatre scene as Rosalind in As You Like It with Shakespeare in Delaware Park this coming summer! Adam Yellen

Herschel

Adam is honored to be returning to the JRT stage this season. He is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, with a BA in Theatre Arts. Adam returned to the area after college and this is his 11th season in Buffalo. Some notable theater credits include: MY NAME IS ASHER LEV (Jewish Repertory Theatre), TWELFTH NIGHT and KING LEAR (Shakespeare In Delaware Park), THE NIGHT ALIVE and FROST NIXON (Irish Classical Theatre), JOHN (Road Less Traveled Productions), THE DROWSY CHAPERONE (MusicalFare), and ROBIN HOOD (Theatre Of Youth).  Adam is a three-time Artie Award nominee. By day Adam is The Director of Performing Arts for the JCC of Greater Buffalo. Much love to his mother Laura and wife Arin.
