Just For Us

by Alex Edelman | Directed by Charmagne Chi

May 7 - June 7

Just for Us follows comedian Alex Edelman on a journey that begins with an anti-Semitic tweet and ends in a Queens apartment, face-to-face with a gathering of White Nationalists. What starts as morbid curiosity evolves into a thoughtful and often hilarious confrontation with hate, ignorance, and his own identity. This uproarious and captivating show deftly explores themes of religion, assimilation, empathy, and the bizarre contradictions of modern life.

Originally developed in intimate London venues, Just for Us grew into a critically acclaimed Broadway hit. Edelman's incisive wit and heartfelt introspection earned him a Special Tony Award®, underscoring the show's not only comedic but also culturally vital status. In a new staging directed by the acclaimed Buffalo actor and comedienne Charmagne Chi, Jordan Levin steps into Edelman's shoes, bringing a fresh perspective to a piece that continues to resonate in a divided world.

Starring: Jordan Levin

Saul Elkin (1932–2025)
In Memoriam

The Jewish Repertory Theatre and the JCC of Greater Buffalo honor the life and legacy of Saul Elkin, beloved co-founder of the Jewish Repertory Theatre. Alongside David Bunis, Saul made the dream of a Jewish theatre in Buffalo a reality. His lifelong commitment to acting, directing, and teaching left an indelible mark on countless artists, students, and audiences throughout Western New York. Saul was the recipient of the Ralph L. Kushner Community Service Award from JCC Buffalo in 2021.

In addition to his work with JRT, Saul was the visionary founder and longtime Artistic Director of Shakespeare in Delaware Park, one of the nation's most prominent free Shakespeare festivals. He also served as Chair of the Theatre Department at the University at Buffalo from 1971 to 1985, shaping generations of theatre practitioners.

Born in New York City to Jewish immigrant parents from Russia and Romania, Saul grew up speaking both Yiddish and English. His love of theatre began early, as he performed at the age of seven in a play written by Maurice Schwartz, founder of the Yiddish Art Theatre. From those early roots, Saul built a distinguished career in stage and screen, with over 250 acting and directing credits across theatre, television (including “The Edge of Night”), and regional companies.

He held degrees from Columbia University (B.A., M.F.A.) and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University. Arriving in Buffalo in 1969, he brought his deep passion for classical and Jewish theatre to the region, founding institutions that continue to thrive today. We are forever grateful for Saul's vision, generosity, and profound contributions to the JCC and the Jewish community. He leaves behind a legacy of professional, thought-provoking theatre that continues to inspire.

May his memory be a blessing.
