Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski
by Clark Young and Derek Goldman | Directed by Robert Waterhouse
Running October 31-November 24, 2024

JRT favorite David Lundy gives a tour-de-force performance as Jan Karski in this genre-defying true story of a reluctant World War II hero and Holocaust witness. After surviving the devastation of the Blitzkrieg, Karski swears allegiance to the Polish Underground and risks his life to carry the first eyewitness reports of war-torn Poland to the Western world and, ultimately, the Oval Office. Escaping a Gestapo prison, bearing witness to the despair of the Warsaw Ghetto and confronted by the inhumanity of a death camp, Karski endures unspeakable mental anguish and physical torture to stand tall in the halls of power and speak the truth. This beautiful and touching new work captures the complexity and legacy of this self-described "insignificant, little man" whose timely story of moral courage and individual responsibility can still shake the conscience of the world. JRT is honored to present the highly exclusive regional premiere of this timely and essential new show.

The Wanderers
by Anna Ziegler | Directed by JRT Artistic Director Saul Elkin
Running February 6 - March 2, 2025

In this Off-Broadway hit, two marriages have seemingly little in common: Esther and Schmuli are Orthodox Jews navigating strictly defined rules and roles, while Sophie and Abe are secular and free to make their own choices. But both couples are growing apart as they strive to balance their individual identities with the families they've created. As Esther tests the boundaries of her personal freedom, Abe falls into a correspondence with a movie star that will shake the foundations of his marriage and career. From the playwright of JRT's hit production, Photograph 51, comes this funny, moving, and thoughtful play that asks if following one's truth is worth it, no matter the cost. Featuring an all-star cast including Arin Lee Dandes, Jordan Levin, Aleks Malejs, Alex Watts and Adam Yellen.

For 2,000 years, Jews have been a diasporic people, melding with communities and cultures across the globe. Sometimes Jews fit in the fringes; many times, they were visionaries. This unique perspective has propelled diverse Jewish contributions throughout the arts.

For 20 years, Jewish Repertory Theatre has showcased the vibrance that Jewish culture has imprinted on our world. From its humble beginnings as a theater company without a home to the creation of The Robert and Maxine Seller Theater in 2011, JRT has become an integral part of the WNY theater community. For this special anniversary season, we continue to celebrate the legacy of Jewish storytelling with three beloved plays. Alongside these productions, we look forward to presenting our JRT20 celebration, book clubs, panel discussions, and our first-ever stage-to-screen series.

For the 2023-2024 season, we not only celebrated twenty years of JRT but also the legacy of Co-founder and Artistic Director Saul Elkin. Saul’s work has been integral in developing not just Jewish theater in our community but the development and growth of theater all over Western New York, including the founding of Shakespeare in Delaware Park and his many years serving as Chair of the UB Theater Department.
