Looking Back to Look Forward - Digital Photographic Art by Kathleen Corff Rogers
I have always been fascinated by color, texture, light, space, and details. I feel excitement as I look beyond and discover something new; a reward for taking a second look. Finding patterns and shapes, seeing intricacy,- a deeper dive within the captured image – is a step closer to an emotional response. 2013 was a turning point for me, however, it wasn’t the first time I wanted to capture textures, colors and interesting objects. I have looked back to images from my college Intro to Photography class and it began then. The photographs chosen for this installation share a portion of my journey. I have continually been moved to share my vision with an audience…to open their eyes as they experience the world around them. To have them discover that even though they may be looking in one direction, something equally interesting may be happening behind them. I have been rewarded with many friends sending me photos from their trips knowing I’d appreciate their seeing something different that captures their eye as well. Rough and discarded objects have a life of their own when enhanced. Through my exhibit I challenge the viewer to find inspiration in details, shadows, light and unexpected spaces.
“The question is not what you look at,
but what you see.”
