Join the JCC for monthly readings as part of a Jewish Poetry Series, hosted by Philip Terman and Baruch November. Each month will feature different Jewish poets reading selections of poems that include but are not limited to Jewish themes, values and ideas. Free and Open to the Public.
David Lehman, Jehanne Dubrow, Baruch November

David Lehman's books include The Morning Line (Pittsburgh UP), a gathering of poems, and A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs, which was awarded the Deems Taylor Award from ASCAP. Ithaca, his new book, won the New Criterion Poetry prize for 2025 and will be published in February 2026. The book consists of sixty sonnets divided into two equal parts, Ithaca and Gifts Reserved for Age. Among the phrases that are strategically repeated, with variations, are “Happy the man who. . .” and “What did he believe in?” Lehman is the editor of "The Oxford Book of American Poetry" and has been series editor of "The Best American Poetry" since its inception in 1988. “Tales Told to Tevye,” his Talmudic short story, appeared in "The New Yorker". His story Havana, 1939 was published by Tablet. He divides his time between New York City and Ithaca, New York.

Jehanne Dubrow is the author of three books of nonfiction and ten poetry collections, including most recently Civilians (Louisiana State University Press, 2025). She is also the author of The Wounded Line: A Guide to Writing Poems of Trauma and serves as Editor of “Writing From Trauma,” an interdisciplinary series of craft books published by University of New Mexico Press. Her writing has appeared in numerous literary journals, including "New England Review", "Southern Review", "Alaska Quarterly Review", and "Ploughshares". She is a Distinguished Research Professor and a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of North Texas.

Baruch November is a long-time host of this series of poetry readings, Baruch November’s latest book of poems, The Broken Heart is the Master Key, was released in August 2025. His previous book of poems was Bar Mitzvah Dreams, and his first collection of poems, Dry Nectars of Plenty, won BigCityLit’s chapbook contest. November’s literary works have been featured in "The American Scholar", "ONE ART: a poetry journal", "Tiferet Journal", "Paterson Literary Review", "Lumina", "NewMyths.com", and "The Forward". He has taught courses in Multicultural American Literature, Shakespeare, poetry, and writing at Touro University in Manhattan.
