“The Vel d’Hiv Round-Up: The Largest Mass Arrest in Wartime in French History”?
Presenter: EILEEN M. ANGELINI, Ph.D. Fulbright Scholar

Eileen Angelini, Ph.D will speak on The Vélodrome d’Hiver roundup, the largest French deportation of Jews during the Holocaust. It took place in Paris on July 16–17, 1942. The roundup, assisted by French Police, was one of several aimed at eradicating the Jewish population in France, both in the occupied zone and in the free zone. According to records 13,152 Jews were arrested, including more than 4,000 children.

Presently, Dr. Angelini is Associate Dean of the School for Graduate Studies at SUNY Empire State College. She serves on the Presidential Task Force to Enhance Diversity and Inclusion. Her projects include working with Teacher Education faculty to incorporate Holocaust content and pedagogy into methodology coursework. In support of these projects, Dr. Angelini has been named a 2020-2021 United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Holocaust Institute for Teacher Educators (HITE) Professor and was invited to participate in the 2020-2021 Olga Lengyel Institute (TOLI) for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights Summer Seminar.
