Frequently Asked Questions About Memberships

Will I Receive a Membership Card?

All members will receive a membership card when joining the JCC. You will receive three versions – a credit card size, a small key tag and an adhesive strip. You can also take a picture of your card and/or use the app KeyRing. CARDS MUST BE PRESENTED WHEN ENTERING THE FITNESS AREAS. Replacement tags are $10 each. All individuals 10 years of age and older must have a JCC I.D. card.

When Do I Renew My Membership?

Membership is renewed annually on your “yearly anniversary date.” Memberships paid on a payment plan will be automatically renewed. Members who paid in full will receive an annual statement. Click here to see those listings. 

Can Youngsters Use the Wellness, Fitness & Sports Facility?

We offer supervised classes for our youth population in our Wellness, Fitness & Sports department. All youngsters 14 years and older may use the health club on their own. Youngsters under age 14 may participate in specialized fitness classes (see our program listings). Children 10 years and older may use the pool and gymnasium unaccompanied by an adult.

How Do I Know if the JCC is Closed or Closing Early Due to Inclement Weather?

In the event of inclement weather, please visit our website at www.jccbuffalo.org, our facebook or twitter pages for information on closings and cancellations.

What Are My Membership Dues Used Toward?

Your membership dues support the operating budget of the JCC.

Will Other JCCs Honor My Membership?

If you travel outside the Buffalo area, many JCCs will honor your valid JCC membership. Please check with the JCC you would like to visit to inquire about their reciprocity policy. We extend the same courtesy to our out-of-town guests.

Is membership valid at both facilities?

Absolutely! Many members who live in the suburbs and work in the city utilize both facilities.

Is the entire facility available to me as a member?

Yes! Members enjoy everything we have to offer, including a comprehensive fitness facility and all our fitness classes, with your membership card. One-on-one instruction or services, such as personal training or massage therapy, are available for an additional fee. Camp, Early Childhood Education programs and after school care also have additional charges that vary.

Do you offer child care?

Yes! In addition to our year round Early Childhood Program, members can work out, attend a class or lecture or work out without worry as we have on-site babysitting.

We’re thinking about enrolling our pre-schooler in the JCC’s Early Childhood Education Center and our 2nd grader in your Kid’s Place after-school program. Must we be members?

It isn’t required but we strongly encourage it for a few reasons. First, we discount the rates charged for these programs to members. Second, the JCC is owned by its members and a family atmosphere is encouraged. We think it’s great when a parent has time for an after or before work workout. Cultural Arts programming , special events, meals at our wonderful Myers Family Tel Aviv Café, a swim in our pools and dozens of other programs enrich the experience of families in our youth programs.

Do you offer special discounts for military families?

Yes! JCC of Greater Buffalo is pleased to extend discounts to individuals in the Military and their families. 
* 50% off our annual membership plus registration fee for families of currently or soon to be deployed Military or those in the Reserves with military jobs.
* 25% off our annual membership plus no registration fee for families/individuals in the Reserves with full-time non-military jobs, retired and/or disabled Veterans.
* 50% off standard pricing for short term memberships for individuals who've received their deployment papers OR are currently on temporary leave from their tour of duty.  
* We are glad to extend our facilities free of charge to active military personnel who are home for fewer than 3 months.

You say you are open to all. What if I can’t afford the full membership charges?

Since our inception more than 66 years ago the JCC has provided financial assistance to deserving individuals and families. An anonymous financial aid committee reviews tax documents and other evidence of need and offers assistance to the extent possible. Just ask for an application for assistance at the time you apply for membership. Please click here to obtain a Financial Aid Form from Katie Wzontek, at kwzontek@jccbuffalo.org, our Financial Aid Coordinator.

Will I be subjected to constant selling of costly services such as Personal Training?

Our staff is not permitted to use badgering or high-pressure sales techniques at any time. They are, however, encouraged to suggest programs, classes or individualized training for members whom they believe could benefit from such services. We maintain a delicate balance which is respectful of member’s space and comfort without neglecting real needs as we serve our members.
